What you are looking at below is a conceptual video which was developed as a result of a corporate collaborative research project initiated by Bonnier R&D and design partners BERG (who present the video). The video of this project demonstrates the experience of reading magazines on handheld digital devices and illustrates one possible vision for digital magazines in the near future.

The concept’s aim is to capture the reading essence and style of a paper-based gloss magazine we’re all been used to sincethe begining of the last century, providing “an engaging and unique reading experience in which high-quality writing and stunning imagery build up immersive stories”. Clearly it has been people and potentially a future in which interactivity, and abundant information with unlimited options is perceived as somewhat overwhelming and ever worringly intrusive…

They say  ”the purpose of publishing this concept video is first and foremost to spark a discussion around the digital reading experience in general, and digital reading platforms in particular.” So this could mean serious and quite positive implications for blogs like Artificialife and magazines alike.

And similar tech is not as far away as we are made to think with the sudden emergence of PMP‘s and todays announcement of the the Skiff Reader BUT ALSO I might add that rumour-ville is talking about Apple announcing a handheld ‘Tablet‘ device this month and some kind of media agreement with Condé Nast & News International already in plans. Hmmm!!

More after the jump guys (oh so much more to come)!!!
