I’m a big fan of illustration. In fact, I’m killing myself to find a real decent illustrator to decorate version 2.0 of Artificialife just for the publicity (holla if you’re up for that). Anyway, this guy I found on my travels is very well decent! In fact Genius!!
Brooklyn-based artist William Powhida, I’ve been told, has just finished a drawing for the cover for the September issue of the Brooklyn Rail. As a Londoner I cant pretend that I’m all to familiar with the magazine or its significance but the website sure looks like good reading so I’ll be looking out for it.
The show has pitted art critics against each other since it first aired. Paddy Johnson, in a plea for an end to the bickering on her blog Art Fag City, summarizes some of the key questions that the show has prompted, “Is Work of Art an accurate reflection of the art world? Does it perpetuate myths? Is art sacred?”

I never really liked Bruge’s until I saw this sweet silhouette. These are just super magic!! I knew that eventually I will have to buy a pair but these make my life much happier knowing that I can continue looking to the future and stay in touch.
Allow me to explain, Made With Rest seem have evolved on a line of philosophy in shoe design. These guys have used a classic silhouette and made it stand out for today. And because I hate dressing like I’m rewinding into the nineteenth centry (let alone the twentieth – which I think is killing fashion) these make me happy. I’m all about dressing in the future with learnings from the past. Thanks Made With Rest!!
My daily digging compelled me to pass this one on. I gotta say that I’m quite excited about the immenent release of HACKING WORK: Breaking Stupid Rules for Smart Results by Bill Jensen and Josh Klein. I think that it could be the next Freakonomics (well at least in my head). In it, Jensen (a consultant) and Klein (a hacker) expose the cheat codes that enable people to work smarter instead of harder. Something unshort of intriguing.
Its like the perfect kind of mix of fringe mixed with business mind-set that I look for in any literature I put my valuable time aside to focus on. It’s not a guide to corporate anarchism – infact Hacking Work promises to highlight how to be a “benevolent hacker” hooo hoo!!
Someone who achieves company goals by bending the rules of an already broken system. These actions are always intended to help the customer and the corporation.
Perfect! Anyway I’ll be reading this book, try to get in-touch with the authors and I’ll come right back at ya! x
I’m going to …

Need I say more?
The already legendary dutchman Parra has teamed up with the ever timeless Converse with these new Chuck Taylor All Stars. I personally think these are ultra-badass, but i’ll get on to that later. These are created by/for Converse for (PRODUCT)RED with the goal of ’using art to change the world’ – love that!
Parra was asked to use his unique style to create a special shoe to raise money toward The Global Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa and after sold 10% of the net wholesale price will go to that fund. The name (Paint The Town) RED is both a nod to Parra’s roots in graffiti and street art, as well as the goal of creating awareness and inviting others to join (RED) in the fight against AIDS in Africa.
Parra chose to create a khaki shoe featuring a playful take on perp. In true Parra spirit, the pattern is a departure from the standard repeat print and features a more ironic version with cherries complete with legs and stiletto heels.
I wanted to incorporate the color red, and cherries came up. I wanted to go for a kind of preppy look, but I didn’t want it to be so serious, so I incorporated the cherry character!
Parra.
Being one of the most stand-out and iconic kicks worn throughout the decades by bombers (streetartists) and other kind of beatniks the Chuck Taylors provided a perfect muse for the project. Each shoe is totally unique and is held together by these iced outsole with a paint brush stroke – which is exactly why I need one!
The Parra Chuck Taylor silhouette launches in Foot Patrol and Dover Street Market (London) this week at the RRP of £89.99.
I want a pair. Ahem! “I’m a size EU43!!!”
