Artist William Powhida Produces Art World Board Game
Sep 2010 06

I’m a big fan of illustration. In fact, I’m killing myself to find a real decent illustrator to decorate version 2.0 of Artificialife just for the publicity (holla if you’re up for that). Anyway, this guy I found on my travels is very well decent! In fact Genius!!

Brooklyn-based artist William Powhida, I’ve been told, has just finished a drawing for the cover for the September issue of the Brooklyn Rail. As a Londoner I cant pretend that I’m all to familiar with the magazine or its significance but the website sure looks like good reading so I’ll be looking out for it.

Anyways, the theme of drawing is a playable art world board game that is jestly titled The Game and possibly responds to the Bravo series Work of Art that recently concluded its first season. He also uploaded an incensed Work of Art rant on his blog.
The show has pitted art critics against each other since it first aired. Paddy Johnson, in a plea for an end to the bickering on her blog Art Fag City, summarizes some of the key questions that the show has prompted, “Is Work of Art an accurate reflection of the art world? Does it perpetuate myths? Is art sacred?”
Judge for yourself see the gallery below and try it out yourself…
(The rules to The Game can be downloaded from Powhida’s blog).
